High blood pressure is one of the symptoms of kidney disease; however, for people with Diabetic Nephropathy, high blood pressure plays a different role in the progression of their disease.
Similar with many other kinds of kidney disease, Diabetic Nephropathy also will run to kidney failure if just left untreated. There are many risk factors for the progression of Diabetic Nephropathy and high blood pressure is one of them.
Although high blood pressure is caused by kidney damages, in turn, it can produce great influence on the development of Diabetic Nephropathy. Firstly, high blood pressure makes leakage of protein become more and more serious. We all know that proteinuria which is formed because of leakage of protein is one of the leading clinical manifestations of kidney damages and usually, the more severe the protinuria is, the more severe the kidney damages. Therefore, seeing from this point, high blood pressure will accelerate the development of Diabetic Nephropathy through worsening proteinuria. Secondly, compared with people who has no high blood pressure, people suffering high blood pressure has a higher risk of developing Diabetic Nephropathy. Although the occurrence of Diabetic Nephropathy has no direct relationship with high blood pressure, through investigation we found that the morbidity of Diabetic Nephropathy among diabetics without high blood pressure is higher than that among diabetics with high blood pressure. Therefore, avoiding the appearance of high blood pressure among diabetics is very important. Besides, high blood pressure is more common among people with type 2 Diabetes than that with type 1 Diabetes.
