Diabetes and KIdney Disease
I have had type I diabetes for 33 years and hypertension for about 6 years. I recently had a baby and my control has been awful. Due to symptoms of leg swelling, an albumin creatinine ratio was performed (not first morning urine) and was 50.37. Does this mean that I definitely have CKD or is it possible that this is temporary/reversible?
If the units of your albumin test are micrograms per milligram of creatinine or milligrams per gram of creatinine, the normal range is less than 30. During pregnancy, urine protein may rise in later term pregnancy. You may have to wait at least 3 months to see if this clears. If this does not clear, then you may have chronic kidney disease (CKD) from your diabetes.
